There's a distinct possibility I'll have a work car soon, so my car would go anyway, and a bike for the weekend sounds like a fab idea to me.

Once you have got past your CBT and done direct access, this kind of bike is pretty much perfect for a new rider I think. It will certainly be where I will be looking when it comes to that time for me!

Not at all. They're renowned as excellent beginner bikes. They're comfortable, but not too relaxed, quick enough to be bags of fun but not to be unmanagable, and are just... good bikes. My sister's ridden one for yonks, she loves it.

You'll find that the in-line 4 are a much smoother ride than the V-Twins. The engine braking is more apparent on the twins and require a little more clutch control. Hence, you'll hearthose saying that twins are bikers bikes. This is noticeable more when cornering and taking round-a-bouts for example.

The SV for me was a bit of down size but I just wanted something different. The difference being around 30bhp less the the gixer iirc.

It's a fantastic first bike. Personally I prefer the power delivery of an inline 4 - but that's personal preference. The V Twins make a nice noise for sure with a decent can, and are well balanced and quite light - however there's nothing like chasing that red line on a 4
