Used to be a sniper in BF1942 and Desert Combat - frequently used to get kill ratio's of 10:1

Never used headphones - high quality surround sound for me and a throat mike tended to do it.

However, knowing the maps is the most important part.

Knowing the weapons capabilitys is equally important - know what range the weapons are effective to etc...

Practice

Don't play online anymore - servers I used to play on, amongst many other things, got too obcessed with Capture the Flag - which was frankly dreadful on DC. I had a go at BF2 and BF2142 - considered them to be a step backwards from DC and BF1942.

Yet to find anything as good.
