Surely the density of the foam simply means it can take more load and consequenty, this will affect the necessary thickness?

I've tried out the Tempur memory foam mattresses and it seems that the only difference between the thicker ones and the thinner ones (apart from price!) is how soft they feel, or how "sinkable" they are.
