How much to charge spyware removal pc cleanup etc...? Bah!
Arg the usual problems! I don't really know the guy, but he's a new boyfriend of a good friend of mine. Took two of his laptops and they were ridden with everything under the sun, autorun ruined, system restore ruined, couldn't access microsoft.com and other security websites etc... Really it needed a format and start from scratch but he can't find his original CD and actually its not a legit copy on the laptop anyways. Many reason why i can't easily format.
So instead i renewed his VLK license to buy him time and i've literally told him that's all it'll do, gave him SP3 and updates from maybe the last two years. Cleared all the spyware from both of them, installed chrome and working anti virus apps. Generally uninstalled toolbars startup programs and crap. So they're both like new again, but it's taken me on and off a good few hoursof work, yet not intensive work just me sitting near a computer running things and checking things over and over again. Thats all great. Now how much do a i charge? I feel a bit iffy charging, because i don't feel i've "done" anything i've just run a lot of programs and used google essentially, made sure its all clean. But he can't do this, and i can't really do this for free otherwise i'll end up with a million laptops of his friends, and since he's from poland i could end up with quite a lot of work! But whats fair? I don't want to undersell myself either... I got one laptop back to him that very same night because it was "important" and the other was done over the space of the next day and we are talking a solid 24hours but thats including waiting for SP3 to download install numerous restarts random spyware etc.... £50? More? £50 maybe feels like i'd be offering him a very good deal for two laptops? I hate doing things like this for friends/family... Oh and i'm quite clearly on "callout" "forevermore" from now on as well, so i might have to factor that in... |
