Like a tooth? That meaning is fine

I mean sentences like 'how will this impact upon...' when you could use affect and not even bother with the upon.
Or 'French has always been a language of food and has impacted English accordingly both here and in the US'

Just say bloody affect/ed/anything other than impacted

Seems to be something that has only recently emerged and it's annoying.
