Would you consider this geeky?
OK, so you have all seen the photos of my room, but here is the bigger picture:
My room contains my desktop PC and a Network Attached Storage box with 1.3Tb of storage space. I have them linked at a gigabit through a netgear gig switch. From this switch, a link goes to a level 2 managed switch on the top floor. That switch is segregated into VLANs, one VLAN acts as a trunk link (over the top of the house) to the second level 2 managed switch serving the front of the house. The other VLAN is for my housemate's PCs (he is a bit, erm, paranoid about network security). We have our own DHCP server and DNS server and between just two of us we have the makings of a small corporate network... To top it all off, we have a VPN to a server based in germany that is used to tunnel us whatever local access we want. I have RDP and SSH as "default" but I could add whatever I wanted ad-hoc. SSL Explorer ftw The only think we could do (but dont want to) is to create a domain but our "clients" wouldnt benefit from that really. All this because there is literally *no* way around some of the security on the cisco the uni has put in our loft EDIT: Pic of his room: You cant see the print server and DHCP/DNS server under his bed/out of shot either...
