I love the films as much as the books, and would gladly have sat through six three-hour films - one for each of the actual books (Fellowship, Towers and King are all split into two parts). Having said that, I agree with the above, apart from missing out Tom, they did extremely well considering the constraints regarding the length of film etc.

I have the extended versions of all three and have twice done marathon sessions watching them one after the other
