Well that's me out of circulation and everything until further notice.
A couple of months ago I took out a maintenance contract on our Combi boiler which is a few years old and was in good need of a service.
Today British Gas came along and did the pre-inspection thing they do to ensure it's all OK and that they can get parts for it. I wasn't here, but Mrs. Feek was and she said that the man had a look of horror on his face when he came into the room where the boiler is. We had it fitted around thirteen years ago so it's well old now and after his inspection he said that the only level of contract they'd issue would be a once a year service jobbie, no maintenance or parts included. I spoke with him and it turns out that it's so scaled up that it'd be impossible to sort. We have a couple of problems with it, one is that the hot water through is quite slow, which I can live with but the other issue is that unless the boiler is delivering heating, we get no hot water. No problem at this time of the year but it's a bit frustrating in the summer having to knock the heating on for a few minutes when we need water. I asked what the cost would be to get it cleaned up and fixed and he laughed and said it's not worth it at all. We're better off replacing it with a new one. Technology has moved on and the new ones are a lot better and more efficient. He said we should just go with it for as long as possible and then replace it when it breaks. He wasn't trying to sell me a boiler as he suggested we went to a local place as we'd get a much better price than through British Gas. His rough estimate was around £1,500 for a new boiler supplied and fitted. The problem is that I don't have that, I have no way to get my hands on it and (as you'll know from from a previous thread) there's not a chance on earth of me getting credit or a loan of any kind to fund this. So I'm going into mass save mode as from now. That means no more meets, mini or otherwise, no popping to the pub at lunchtime for a pint, sarnies at work instead of trips to the tenhotandlarge shop and no more toys. Mrs. Feek doesn't want me selling stuff off which I've bought over the years and I'm the same with her so that's not an option. So if I seem particularly unsociable over the next few months, please don't take it to heart - Don't take it personally when I turn down any invites or just get a bit grumpy when you'd not expect me to. We'll get over it, this sort of thing happens to people all over the place all the time. I'm just posting because I'm feeling a little down at the moment and, yes, I guess I'm looking for hugs!
