I wouldn't say that I am a music officiando or a ludite either but I just can't get my head around the whole fuss about The Beatles. Was music that bad in the 60's that they were the only saving grace. Maybe its a generation thing and my kids will say "Dad, Nirvana ????? Whats the big deal"

They were a pop phenomenon, some of their music is timeless and classic, some is cheesy tosh but they changed the way music was viewed to a large degree. Hell they even had 'Beatlemania', films, dolls, people idolised them etc etc so if that doesn't suggest that there was something a bit special about them then I'm not sure what does. You don't have to like the music but I'd be surprised if most people didn't at least acknowledge they were fairly competent at what they did. They also had some pretty fantastic quotes such as (on being asked if Ringo Starr was the best drummer in the World): "..Ringo isn't even the best drummer in the Beatles.." or "We're bigger than Jesus". Quotes might not be exact but they are just from memory.
