Ref your not sure about getting married - my Uncle, he was married on his death bed to his long term partner (he was gay... in fact I believe he was the first gay person to be married in Britain actually - they made an exception for him to have it done sooner than it was being legalised as he had days to live). Anyhoo, the reason he did it was purely so his partner wouldn't have everything taken away from him and be completely ripped off by the government when he died
It's not something he would have done otherwise but yeh... In that sense - there are quite a few benefits.
