I know what you mean Streeteh.
It took me a very long time to get into Fallout 3, and tbh if I hadn't had the spare time I wouldn't have bothered. It's a strange thing, I've played it to completion on the 360 and nearly to completion on the PC, but I still wouldn't say it was my game of the year. Much like you, it reminded me too much of Oblivion and I really didn't see the fuss in that either. Not saying I didn't enjoy it eventually but it's not the be all and end all that some people make it out to be and I'd never suggest there was something wrong with someone for saying they didn't like it as I know exactly what they mean. A while ago, a friend at work asked me if it was any good. He's got a busy family life going on so I told him that it was slow to get into but it did become good, but that if he didn't have the time to devote, not to bother. He's the sort of guy who loves gaming but just doesn't get enough time to play enough so wants a quick fix when he can. Having said that from things I've heard of him, I reckon he'd be someone who could rival Davey at Ninja Gaiden
