I think this is why they're doing the invite thing again - I don't honestly think it's something most people want or need and I can't see it revolutionising the face of internet communication as some people have said.
Much like GMail, it's the invitations generating the hype more than the site in question. If GMail had just launched, everyone would have just stayed on Hotmail or whatever they were using and take up would have been slow. Make it seem exclusive via invites and suddenly everyone wants in, even people who don't even know what it is.
