Default Penderyn

After trying Penderyn one time in Swansea and proclaiming it to be sh*te, I was concerned I hadn't given it a fair chance. I saw it in Tesco yesterday and decided I'd give it another chance so, I bought a bottle.

I'm man enough to admit I was wrong and would like to upgrade it from sh*te to .........

...... unpleasant

I found it not to be the disgusting drink I originally thought, it's just not very good. I'm not sure what it is but I suspect it's the Madeira casks it's matured in. About two seconds after drinking it one detects a slight oaky vanilla taste which is pleasant but very short-lived and is swiftly followed by an unpleasant bitterness which I put down to the Madeira which is a singularly unpleasant drink.

I wouldn't mind trying another expression - looking at their website, I see they do a peated version and a sherry cask matured version. These, I feel, may be drinkable - the Madeira version, sadly, is not

Overall impression is that it's not actually sh*te - but bloody close.
