Very tasty whisky
I went to Fenwicks in town today to get a bottle of nice whisky to drink with my haggis, neeps and tatties tonight (will be having it shortly). Had a bit of a taster of the whisky already and it's extremely nice.
It's a bottle of 30yo Bunnahabhain, matured in Oloroso sherry casks and bottled by private bottlers Murray McDavid as part of their Mission range of whiskies. I've said on several occasions that the combination of Islay malts and sherry casks is a marriage made in heaven. This one doesn't disappoint. Colour is a dark golden colour and is slightly hazy when water is added (non chill filtered). Nose is mainly sherry with hints of oaky vanilla and toffee/chocolate. Palate is primarily sherry with typical Islay smoky peatiness and a little oak thrown in. Finish is toffee and bitter chocolate with just a hint of spiciness. I love this whisky and I'm having trouble not drinking too much of it. I don't want to drink it all in one go as it is too good to get drunk on (also, at £118 a bottle, it's not the sort of whisky one scoffs). It's the first really expensive bottle I've had in a while and it's a great treat - I'm glad I bought it. I'll make it my mission in life to drink as many sherry cask matured Islay malts as I can lay my hands on. I'm off now to cook my haggis and try not to drink it all. I wish I had a better alternative in the flat than the Penderyn I bough the other day - gonna be difficult to drink that when I know this stuff is so good.
