What are the laws regarding what you can and cannot bring on a bus?

What's the biggest thing you can take on a bus? I'm currently without horseless chariot. I need to visit a scrapyard at very short notice (tomorrow) and i want to bring a rear bumper (at least) home, I don't think i'll be getting friends help, so i was wondering if the worst happens and i can't get a lift home would a bus driver let me on with a rear bumper

? I'd pay for a seat for the bumper and it can sit out the way unobtrusively and not block fire exits etc if need be

What are my chances?
