Default Leg exercise

I've been having trouble with my knee joints for a while and I eventually went to the docs about it. Weak muscles I'm told, particularly on the inside of my knees. I tried to make sense of working out which muscles that would be, but failed miserably.

Anyone got any tips/stretches/exercise suggestions to help improve the situation please?
