Cleaning up vomit

Welcome to my disgusting thread, no pictures though

Had a few friends round last night and some drinks on the go. One guy went off to make a phonecall and we never saw him again. Found him at 4am face down in his own vomit :/

On my mattress

Firstly in the short term: How do i clean this up in the most effective way? Searching via google is fine but I wouldn't mind some real world answers

The stain is also on the carpet too.

Secondly: Would it be better/quicker at this point to toss the mattress and get a new one?
