Rasterize

I don't know if anyone can help, but I am trying to do this tutorial:

And I have drawn the tree using the pen tool but not sure if this is ok in the Background layer or should be in a new layer because after doing the Blending options stuff I can not rasterize it

If anyone can help please shout!
