Default Help Alex buy a laptop part 2. Processor differences? T2250, T5200 and T5500?

Ok so things have changed, again (as usual).

So looks like i'm after a screen size 13" or less, "ultraportable" laptop, coming in at around or under £800. Weighing under 2kg would be nice, but its not totally important, i'm a big enough lad to be able to carry over 2kg decent battery life too, if it can survive playing a dvd for 3-4 hours thats perfect (ie train rides)

Would like it to be able to be docked into a station, but so far i've not found anything (except a dell latitude 420 out of my price range).

On my short list now, are:

In summary, the Sammy Q35 jumps out at me but i don't *really* know why, the VIAO has s-video out which would be nice for plugging into old tvs to watch movies, the phillips just seems in the same league but nothing striking i dont think, and the Packard Bell has all the trimmings including built in webcam and mic and fingerprint reader, and is the cheapest by far. Only thing im worried about is real world battery life and build quality etc with the packard because i can't seem to find ANY reviews of it...

Another thing i'm not "up" on is the different processors used, if i find it confusing god help the public! so whats the difference between the t2250 and t5200 and t5500, i assume the two latter are the same type but ones slightly faster, but i'm not sure what the packard bell's t2250 is, i guess its cheap poo, hence the nice price?

Wow, long post, hopefully some managed untill the end of that and would like to help me!

Cheers again guys

Avoid Phillips and Packard Bell at all costs tbh.

PS - That's nothing other than personal bias, but on good grounds.

All you need to know about processor numbers is bigger is (usually) better.

See thats what i thought about the Packard Bell, but the price is just so good especially for what i get (well apart from the processor which i guess is poop), but i guess its going to fall apart within the year, this laptop is meant to last me really, i won't be doing much with it that will require upgrading i dont think.

And the bigger better thing is that true? I would have thought with desktops, but with laptops there is all this ultra low voltage parp i haven't really looked into recently, so im confused...

Cheers Mark, you popped up in my last thread, i appriciate the input, and i took a lot longer to set my thread out this time so you could compare at a glace

So far seems the samsung is still winning, its funny that i found the samsung by complete accident too! Always the way!

I'm hoping comet's price crash tomorrow yeilds something i can't refuse with regard to laptops...

My sister has the previous version of that Samsung, build quality is a bit on the plastic side, too much i think. It is light and thin but doesn't feel too good in the hand. Out of those i'd pick the Sony, good screen and decent build quality.

After all thos options i gave, taking onboard that bad thoughts i and others seem to have with the phillips and packard bell, and although from what i've read Ray's bad experience with the sammy, and the fact that the vaio doesnt seem that cheap for what im getting... i found this beauty on ebay for buy it now, comming in at about £700. Convince me WHY i shouldn't buy it
XPS M1210 LAPTOP CORE 2 DUO INTEL 1.66 T5500 12.1" TFT
2 GIG 160GB DVD±RW TRUELIFE WIFI BLUETOOTH CAMERA

Its a dell version of the packard bell basically, its got EVERYTHING, and its a dell and its cheapish. What could go wrong?

It's not even close.

My work colleague had the memory controller on his XPS laptop die a few months back, but then he also had an Alienware laptop die a month out of warranty, so could be a jinx. My Dell laptop is nearly four years old and only now showing it's age (save the keyboard which had to be replaced) - bloody good considering it's been dropped down a flight of stairs (in a bag, thank god).

In short, you're lucky I didn't bid for it myself (I'll probably wish I had).

BUY IT.

I have the M1710 (the older version with the T2600 CPU) and it's brilliant. Build quality is excellent, it has a great screen and the 2Gb of memory is a godsend - pity it's onboard graphics but the bucketload of system memory should mean that won't be a problem, if you're not doing any serious gaming on it, it'll be perfectly fine.

Seller appears genuine enough - power seller with 1433 sales and 99.9% positive feedback - I'd be happy enough to order from him/her.

excellent, i'm ****ing excited now One thing i;ve noticed with that auction is hes advertising the M1210 with "integrated graphics" when i thought they were discrete only Gefore go 7400, why would he sell himself short? Also why does he have 2gb of memory (ive read right havent I?) for such a cheap cheap price? £700 for that would cost over a grand on the dell site i reckon? This is the only reason im worried...
