Windows doesn't really class mass storage as removable media, or at least not the same type of it, so I'm not surprised the internal processes are different.

My XP boxes at home are no problem at all. My main machine is now heading rapidly towards 4 months uptime. Had this confirmed by someone else now though and he's just as pissed off with it. Who wudda thunked that a 6gb hdd based MP3 player would be more of a pain in the arse than a 8gb usb drive. Simon/~Flibster

Most the Dell Laptops I've seen need a BIOS update before installing Vista - you'll get some odd ACPI related things if not, and who knows what else.
The upgrade tool thingy made it quite clear I had to do it on mine, and I've seen similar on every Dell Laptop I've ran it on since. Though they've all been Latitudes fwiw.

Haven't tried the program again just yet, but i've upldated everything via the dell website today, i've never used it before but make it very easy! I can see why the "average user" loves them . I'm off out for the night now so i'll give it a god sometime soon hopefully. It's not a major problem now anyways i'm going back to uni with my wifi again
Cheers guys |
