Default The Dam Busters (1955)

Over the past few weeks, Vue cinema in Reading (possibly elsewhere too?) has been showing old classic films. Last night The Dam Busters was being shown, so I quickly grabbed some ticket.

Whilst it is more then 50 years old, and even though I've seen it countless times on the small screen, it was well worth a visit. It put modern films to shame. No relying on special effects, no relying on music to generate atmosphere and tension.

The acting is top-notch, and some of the scenes are brilliantly shot.

Worth a trip, should anyone see the offer elsewhere.

Love the Damn Busters. One of my favourite war movies.

I went as well.

Got a bit of interest as my Grandad was a SAC on 617sqn during the time of the Rhur Valley raids. He was a merlin mech.

Superb film. Nice that they were allowed to use some of the original Upkeep and Highball test footage in it.

Plus, 3 Lanc's flying in formation. We won't see that again.

Should dig out my photo's of when my Grandad went back to Scampton for a 617 reunion. Got several of Nigger's grave. Had PA474 fly in for it too.

I had dinner with a couple once at my mates house. His bathroom is unfortunetly connected to the kitchen. His guests wife got up to go to the loo & the husband starting singing the Damn busters theme tune at the top of his voice. His missus could be heard shouting STFU will you every now & again
Apparently he does it Every time she goes to the Loo :undecided:
