Default Need a new Media Player

Right, after a big 'tidy-up' of my music directory this week I feel like a change from WMP.

Now that i've got perfectly arranged (nearly done) music files i wana 'fancy' media player that will enable me to take advantage of the fact every file now has an associated image file...

I know iTunes has that nice feature where u can flick through the albums by cover image but i really would put iTunes as a last resort due to it being Apple and me not owning anything apple or ever wanted to buy anything from iTunes....

what open source alternatives are there? any ideas?

oh, and is there any apps that can capture my brilliant directory tree so i can 'show it off!' (maybe similar to the way winamp will save a html of all files)

The best open source media player, nay, the best media player I've used period is Amarok, but unfortunately there isn't a win32 port so that's no use to you.

On windows I just use something basic like Winamp, never had the need for anything fancy when I have Amarok on the main rig :/

Foobar is very flexible if you're willing to devote some time customising it.

there are loads of premade foobar skins and stuff that will do exactly what you're looking for.

Songbird will be the non apple version of iTunes when it's finally out of beta or whatever it is now. Think its still pre version 1 or something. They're currently introducing a coverflow feature like iTunes in their betas with plugins atm, but its not ready for anyone yet. Songbird is pretty powerful though

I'm not using it yet properly, i've used it in the past and its great, but its got a lot of room for improvement, when it finally reaches version 1 it should be very formidable...

hahaha, i have no idea as i say i ditched it a while back for erm... iTunes () But i have an iPod so theres half an excuse .

What version are you using? I'd probably recommend their betas, theyre not as unstable as you'd think (well in my experience) and they're usually much more up to date compared to the main releases. I think there current beta is getting close to the 0.3 release which is a major release i think.
