Right i've officially given up, for some reason the xp 'puter kept crashing too, turns out on of the files is suffering from cyclic redundancy, but copying over a network just crashes the computer whereas copying to a portable hard drive (yes i gave in, i'm ferrying via a portable hard drive now

) warns me about the problem

At this rate i'll have it all done in a few hours (twice the time it should take but quicker than direct vista network copying!)
