Upgrading to a new release of software is very different though. On pretty much every other commercial software license in the world you'd be covered for bug fixes and enhancements on the revision you purchased for at least for a specified amount of time (12 month increments commonly), if not the entire life cycle of the product (which is what MS do for example) - it's a standard practice if not even a legal requirement depending on what country you're in.
I'd be interested to see a proper changelog if there is one?
