Default Jack Johnson - Sleep Through The Static

Just bought Jack's new album, Sleep Through The Static and loving 'If I Had Eyes'. Does anyone else like JJ and have they got his latest album and what do they think of it if they have?

STTS is the first JJ album to feature electric guitar I believe. He's been using classical guitars to date but this doesn't seem to change his sound too much. It still sounds wonderfully laidback and Hawaaian-esque.

I first heard of JJ when his 'In Between Dreams' album was out in 2005 with a very obvious yellow colour scheme. I wasn't sure if I should get it until I mentioned it to my cousin who had bought it and said I should. So I did. Then I bought 'Brushfire Fairytales' and 'On And On' to go with it. I just found the music utterly delightful and beautifully calm.

I loved his earlier stuff so I'll have to get a copy of this I think. Brushfire Fairytales in particular is a great album imo

Yep. Brushfire Fairytales is a very good album. Can't really pick out a favourite song, they are all good.

I found his earlier stuff to get a bit repetitive to be honest. I like "Better Together" and have it as part of my repertoire, but I just got bored with the album after a while. Kinda like I did with Keane's first album, it was just the same kinda sound repeated over and over with only minor real variations. I'll nab a copy of this one through Napster though and give it a listen, if he's using an electric too thats at least one slightly different sound

I can see what you mean Garp. If you're not 100% into his music it could sound the same from song to song.

The reason I'm liking 'If I Had Eyes' is the rather splendid guitar riff on the track. It is so new in terms of his sound but still sounds like its him.

I think he is excellent and frequently listen to all the albums in one play list on my iPod. There are a couple which I think are excellent but I do agree there are a few tracks which sound rather samey, but with 3 albums it's not much of a surprise.
