Default blank DVD media... what and where?

Righty then, I need to buy some DVDR's, either single layer or dual layer (though unless it's come down in price a stupid amount I think dual layer is out)

I have no idea what the good stuff to buy is, or where a good place to buy it is.

I'm quickly running out of space and my other PC isn't up and running yet, so can't transfer anything across the network

Thanks guys

Matt

If you've got a lot of stuff would an external hard drive be worth looking at?

I have plans for an external drive in the works (already have about 800gb of storage available but not wired up), but for now £20 worth of DVD's will be more economical.

My recommendation: Linky

Taiyo Yuden dyes are the best - also tend to have the longest life. 8x is fine for burning - 4.3gb in around 15mins. I've found 16x to be a little flakey at times.

Damn good store too.

Decent Dual layer disks are still expensive though - around 4x the price of a single layer. I use a few of them for *cough* backups, but they're still too slow to burn really.

Just what I'm after, cheers mate

Probably won't buy the whole 100, I know it'll be more per disc when buying less but I don't need that many

I can easily go through that many in a month... Backups can be a pain in the arse sometimes. Those ones are also full face printable, but it also gives you a nice surface to write on if you can't be bothered to print on them. Feels kinda papery.

That sounds like a superb plan

How to do it though, I'm out of the house 8am-5.30pm monday to friday so postage will be tricky either way

Verbatim, thats the brand I buy.
I also use DL for 'cough' back ups !

Make sure you Optical drive can BURN DL + or - R

If not just get DVD + R for data back ups and DVD -R if you intend to put video content on it to watch on a stand alone player.

QFT - SVP are definitely the place to go, and Taiyo Yuden dyes are the mutt's nuts.
