Default The future of the England and English football?

So just how boring was that last night. It must have been boring as I phoned Tyson half way though sorry mate

Looking at England’s performance last night made me wonder were this is all going. Granted that the side is at the start of a rebuilding phase but is the side that will eventually play in Septembers opening World Cup qualifying game really going to be much different from last night? I don’t think it will and I think that that Fabio has his work cut out to have a side ready for September. His selection choices are too limited and there’s really no depth of world class players in his squad.I’m not saying there are none, but we need more.

I think the route of the problem is English players having minimal representation in Europe and our own domestic league.

When you look at other countries in Europe, they have an even distribution of players across the whole of Europe including England. This is great for their national side.

Conversely, English players do not. In fact, it goes as far as English players not even playing in the premiership. Look at Arsenal on Sunday. I think (and I may be wrong here) there was only one player in the starting 11 that was English. Extend the same scenario abroad and our representation is virtually none existent.

The English Premiership is arguably one of the best leagues in the world so why do we not have a strong representation of English players at home and abroad?

Why is this do you think? Is it that the English are too greedy? Or do they not get a chance because of the presence of foreign players blocking progress of players coming through ranks.

Lifting the foreign player limit in the top league may have helped bring unification across Europe giving the players to move around freely (which is a good thing) but it has had a negative effect on English players and the national side.

Is it time to bring something back into place. Maybe have a minimum English player ruling guaranteeing at least 4 English players?

What do you think?
