BIOS trouble
My PC no longer boots, and no longer posts. According to zee manual, there are 4 lights which go out as the PC starts up, indicating the stage it is currently on.
On my PC, only 1 light is illuminated, which says something along the lines of 'Everything else OK, starting BIOS'. I've not been playing around with it, so I assume these things just happen? I've removed the battery for 8 hours with no luck, should I try for longer? Could the battery itself be dead? *hopes the board isn't dead*

If you can lay your hands on a spare PSU, try that. Also, make sure all your cards, RAM etc are properly seated and the contacts are clean. Try a new battery as well.

Some mobos have a jumper that you can either remove on add to reset the bios?

Good point, I forgot about that. I shall give it a go tonight as the battery was fine.

Reset it, no luck.
Just wish I knew whether it was the mobo or the PSU. Thankfully, I have a nasty presentation to work towards this week, a week of work in Malta followed by the biggest mistake of my live the week after. Should keep my mind of that bl**dy machine.

I'd offer if I could but I don't have a spare PSU either and knowing how fragile at least one of my PCs is I fear I'd break something if I started ripping a PSU out.

Right, back from Malta and have replaced both the motherboard and the PSU.
Same problem. The little 4 lights still get stuck on 'Starting BIOS'. CPU?

I assume you've unplugged as much as possible - HDDs, optical etc., removed all but one stick of RAM (and tried both sticks individually). If you have a spare graphics card, try that too.
