You can take the theory test at any stage. Rich'll be able to give us accurate dates, but I believe you have to pass your driving practical within 2 years of getting your theory, or you have to re-sit the theory.

Spot on, you can do you theory test at any point and the practical must be passed within 2 years of passing the theory test. It seems that most instructors suggest that people try to do the theory test before learning to drive, as much of it is common sense and most people should be able to pass with a few hours of revision and practice. Suppose it makes sense to get it over and done with.

I used an older version of this, the exact version of this and last years version of this.
