XL Airlines(Inc. Travel City) Goes into administration
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/7611639.stm
Just seen this on the news this morning that XL Airlines has gone into administration. Given the destinations (Florida and the Med etc) it goes to some peeps may already have flights booked with them in the future. Absolute bummer and I really do feel for anyone connected with this. My Boss is due to fly out to Orlando in a few weeks and another colleague had has flight grounded just before take off last night so he's locked in Orlando |

We have flown with TC to Orlando before and they where very good, we have been thinking about going back to Orlando recently, my mums friend has a holiday booked for Orlando next month, gutting.
Plus all these firms going bust just push up the demand for more established airliners. |

Your right there Cheets. Even if these poor people get there money back, there is no guarantee they will get the same flight time for holidays booked for next year at the same price. Not to mention that TC accounts for something like 40% of all the flights going into Sandford International in Orlando, it's going to have a knock on effect on there economy as well.
One of the families we come to know quite well through using their Villa a number of times, might end up loosing a lot of bookings next year as a result. They were telling me only a few weeks ago that they recommend TC over Virgin any day of the week. Most of their guests are going with TC |

Don't personally know anyone involved (yet...), but I did go on a Kosmar trip a few years back.

Damn Sorry to hear that. Are they protected somehow - package or credit card etc?

Nope because they only booked one way flights, and spent less than £100 quid on them, the card protection only kicks in after that amount.
Theyre going to their timeshare week for the first week (hence only booking flights) and then the second week they are staying somewhere else in Tenerife and flying home as part of that deal. (i.e. not with XL) If it had been after they had gone away everything would have been fine as once they got there, none of it was to do with XL. Bit of a pain in the rear to say the least! *edit* Just got off the phone from my sister, Mum and Dad have managed to get flights with another airline, but its cos them 300 quid on top of what theyd already paid out, and its from Birmingham (we live in Bristol) plus they now have rubbish flight times and land at midnight compared with landing at 10am. She also said that they (XL) rang my Mum on Wednesday night asking if she wanted to pay an extra £15 per person for extra leg room. They would surely have known by then that they were going under, and to be ringing people up trying to take more money of them is very out of order. Last edited by Knipples; 12-09-2008 at 18:22. |

Quite a few people on the radio today saying they'd been rung with the same query - obviously trying to bring in a bit of extra capital at the last minute.

Which might land whichever manger or director who came up with that idea in court ... well in 4 years time.
