Vista Media Centre Codecs
I'm at a bit of a loss here as to what to do. All the mkv, avi, wmv files play ok in windows media 11 but the media centre app refuses to play them stating a video codec problem.
Anyone got any suggestions?

Media Center itself will only play WMV and MPEG2 I believe, to get it to play anything else you have to use a plugin to effectively call another media player inside media center.
Not familiar with Vista MC (I used 2005), but a quick google throws this

I'm looking into other options and have stumbled across elisa which looks ok. Will install it tonight and give it a bash.

That does look nice. You can even control it with your wiimote. And you can use it as a front end to myth.
Nice find

Doesn't look like it from this guide. Not found a Windows one yet, but it shouldnt be too difficult - there are already Windows drivers for the wiimote, so it'll just be a case of keymapping.

EDIT: note to Leo read the link before posting daft comments

Cool.
elisa does look rather slick - much slicker than MediaPortal (which I'm currently using), but sadly it doesn't support TV yet. |

Well I don't need any TV stuff just a media box. I tried Media Portal but it was horrid
As Media Centre has decided to start working I'm probably just going to stick with it and use that, saves me trying to get anything else to work. Given the headache I've had with it so far I'm going to touch it apart from adding a 2nd HD in the near future
