Hmmmm. After reading some of the replies here, I've done a little checking and npower appear to have the worst customer service record - by a long way. I think we may have had a lucky escape. I think we should reconsider this switch idea. Obviously, I'll have to consult with herself before making a decision.
I've had a look on a couple of price comparison sites and for a couple of quid a month more than npower want, we can switch to one of Scottish Power's online, monthly direct debit tariffs. That would save having to switch and it would save us nearly as much as switching to npower. Scottish power are also amongst the better performers, customer service wise.

1 thing you've forgotten to mention here is because of their screw up we'll have to pay the higher tarriff with our current supplier
