Ran out of root partition disk space, help!
I have 500Mb of space left on my root partition on my lappy install. I need to really squeeze some more space out of this somehow
Basically its a 20Gb partition, with Vista and "basic" program installs (over the space of about 2 years) but i've completely cleaned it all, and i've hit a space wall... My other home partition is pretty full too, 3.xGb of about 120Gb and thats been parred down to necessities barring some recent stray downloads So what can i get away with deleting from system folders to save space? There must be crap there i don't need? Also if i make some room on my other partition, no-one would advise me to re jig partitions would they? Disaster waiting to happen right? Before anyone mentions it, no i can't be bothered with the hassle of a format, the computer works amazingly perfectly well, it just has some extra fat and it needs a simple tummy tuck, far too much hassle installing and getting everything "just right" again... |

Done very much so, CrapCleaner and by hand literally deleting every last thing i dont need from program files, programdata and appdata...
Should have mentioned this is very much a windows laptop! I just use unix partition convention best i can because it makes so much more sense, but being windows it's kinda hybrid. |

D'oh, saw the words 'root partition' mentioned and jumped the gun a tad.
Rejigging partitions isn't as scary as it used to be but still not something I'd recommend on a running system. |

Run cleanmgr?
Checked %temp% for anything? Got rid of all non essential stuff? Do you use hibernate? If so disable hibernate and you could claw back a Gb or so.

Whats cleanmgr? Is that disk cleanup? I've run that.
%temp% is pretty much as clean as you get, one folder left because i've got MediaMonkey open. I do occasionally use hibernate, but you know what, **** it i can do without it and that'll spare me 4Gb i assume. That is a good call |

That would be my suggestion if you can "find" a copy. |

I can always find a copy, my problem is i have *very* little actually free space for the program to play with, which means i think i'm probably much much much more susceptible to it royally ****ing me over, which i really can't be bothered with...
