The builders were all about the façade! Its about 40ft deep and pretty plain inside, apparently it was the treasury of the city, most of the other places are pretty shallow too, I presume because of the heat they were outside a lot of the time using the cool caves just in the full blaze of the sun and at night.

Amazing shots Mat, glad you both had a good time.
Did the camera meter the shot down the gorge to the first sight of the Treasury or did you have to do it manually btw? Cos the exposure looks spot on!

I noticed that large square rock on the ground with the writing carved into it - it's very similar to another piece of rock that I know of, similar size and possibly the same script, that is part of the wall in one of the Queen of Sheba's old frankincense shipping ports on the south Omani coast near the Yemeni border. At the time I saw it (1981) it was still untranslated, I'll see if I can dig out the 35mm that my mother took of it and get a shot of it for comparison.

As Pheebs said, Jordan is one of those places that's on the itinerary when I win the Lottery!
