Operation Flashpoint:DR - Biggest disappointment of the year so far ?
In a year where the list of quality FPS on any platform is pretty thin on the ground, I got to say I had high expectation for this game. A strong single player campaign backed up by squad based play over LAN and multi player action with stock scenario's (extraction, Death Match etc).
Despite the lush vista's I don't think I have ever played such a badly ported shooter from console, ever !!!, It's unresponsive when trying crouch, prone or stand from one of these positions. Talk about button mashing just to try and get a simple action completed. Then the multi player is a complete let down. Only really playable over hamachi otherwise the game just lags and lags. What makes matters worse is that invariably you can get killed a lot due to the lag so to compensate in multiplayer you have to change the AI settings to a lower level to try and get through a mission. It not a fair battle field. Oh and yes when killed you have to go through the whole cut scene again and again without being able to go straight to the mission. Whilst the 4 person makes a refreshing change to the frag fest of COD4, it would still be nice to be involved in larger fire fights than what is on offer at the moment. 8v8 is simply unplayable Lets hope they release a patch soon otherwise I can see this game dying on it's arse. I wonder if the issues are the same on X360 & PS3 ? |

It's just out and out poor.
If it wasn't so buggy still I would suggest playing ARMA II instead.

It's another case of same name, different game. By that i mean the publisher holds the rights to the name but the developers have long moved on to other pastures so a new team is made to develop a sequel. With this transition much of the original 'vision' is lost so even if the talent is up to scratch the ideas and the way of thinking of the original team cannot be taken up. Another example of this is FarCry 2, while it was FarCry in name not a single developer from its predecessor worked on the title and because of this it didn't feel at all related to the original. Oh and, the console version is apparently sluggish and buggy too, this is very little to do with poor porting and very much to do with just being a rubbish game.
Arma II is the closest thing we'll get to a Op Flash 2 imo.

It's not a surprise because I was told it was poor months before it's release . I wouldn't say quality shooters were thin on the ground though. Halo 3: ODST was brilliant as is Uncharted 2.

I made sure i never got on board the hype train for this game as i knew it was destined to do nothing but disappoint people. I admit when i see the TV ad, i think it looks good and the idea of a more sim like shooter appeals. I just know controlling it, bugs and other faults that currently plague the game would nark me right off!
