The way I tend to look at it is that at college you've chosen to be there, it isn't quite like school where you're obligated to go so the chances are that if you've made the decision to go then you want to learn while you are there. You should do that attired in whatever you feel is most comfortable (common decency notwithstanding), I feel most comfortable in jeans and hoodys usually so that's what I wear when I'm not expected to look smart - it's also fine for going to business college.
