Wireless bridge thingy help
Now the GF has moved in, my printer, scanner etc. is being relegated from the lounge. No big deal, I have a spare computer to fire up when needed, and they aren't used very often anyway.
But, there's no easy way to route a network cable to the bedroom and I need two really - 1 for the printer (which has a built in print server) and one for the pc. I have a netgear wireless router that is being used to connect the GF's laptop. Can I just get another wireless router and use as a bridge, or will that mean the laptop can't be connected? Also, any thoughts on a video sender? I have a little tv in the bedroom with an hdmi inout that is just begging to be connected to something Ideally a freeview box connected to the lounge socket (why is the only flipping aerial socket the furthest possible distance from the bedroom ). Cheers peeps |

It isn't easy. There are two options - bridging and WDS. Consumer-grade routers that support the client end of bridging used to be rare (which means one - the WRT54G(S)/GL) and probably still is rare. WDS is more common but just as problematic.
If your existing router supports WDS, then your best option may be to get another identical router and set them both up for WDS. |

My router does do WDS, whatever that is Just remembered my GF brought her old sky broadband router with her. Not sure on the model at the mo. Can a wireless router with WDS do that *and* be an access point at the same time?

Ok, my router is a DG834G and the sky one is a DG934G (although sky have their own branding all over the firmware). Loks like the sky one doesn't have WDs...

Done it
Flashed the Sky router with DG834G firmware. Works fine! Well, I think so, as the wireless laptop is now in Leicester with Em's sister as I put some ram in hers and god knows how but it murdered the bios so I can only assume I can still connect a wireless computer... |
