Default Umm, good I guess, but how to proceed?

Got this in the inbox today:

Quote:
Hello Martin,

My name is Andrea Monzo. I am interested in using your image of the Macaw for an animated project I'm currently working on. The
project is an educational series for broadcast TV about little animals
saving other baby animals. We are looking to use just a portion of the
images to complete an original character design. Since we are
producing the show for a third party broadcaster, we would need to
have the images (non-exclusively) in all forms of media in perpetuity
and I am unable to guarantee screen credit. But that means that your
shots would be used for TV! Do you think we could use it? Do you have any others? We would need them in high resolution (300 dpi at
1480x1040 pixels, at least).

Please contact me at andrea@littleairplane.com.

Thank you so much for your time!

Hey fella,

First suggestion is to email her asking exactly what she wants Then once you know what she wants you can figure out what to reply with.

It looks to me as if she wants to use your photo for whatever she wants, for as long as she wants without giving you any credit or payment for it.

The "(non exclusively)" part appears to indicate that she doesn't want exclusive use for the picture and that you can use or allow others to use it as you see fit (although you wouldn't be able to sell anyone "exclusive rights" to it if you have allowed her use "in perpetuity").

Looks like the only "benefit" you'd get from this deal would be to be able to say to people "That's my photo" if you happened to see it used anywhere.

That's how I interpret it anyway.

Stan

I have emailed her asking what she wants.

Her comapny has 10 Emmy awards for writing Sesame Street amongst numerous other accolades though, so its not exactly a cowboy outfit

Thats what I was saying earlier. They found the image on Flickr which has pro photogs, ametuers and people with phone cameras on it. My guess was that they were hoping to wow some random guy with "your photo on tv." DRZ's shot is really great and deserves credit at the very least. If they want to use it comercially they should pay. 10 emmys and surely they can afford to foot the bill.

Reading through that e-mail it sounds to me like they're hoping that you'll be "OMGZ!!! Fame!" so that they get the use of your photo for nowt. Can't blame them for trying I guess.
