Default Town without children...

I just saw this on the BBC website.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/scotland/...s/10476754.stm

I found that quite interesting and I think that it's a concept which would quite appeal to me.

Then I noticed where it is, and immediately thought to myself "to the internetz"

Haha Firhall, yes, well.... I wouldn't say it's full of child hating ogres, but yes indeed one has to want the quiet life. A really really really really quiet life (and be prepared to put up with a lot of nit picky neighbours). My Mum and Dad looked at getting a house there as it at first glance appears to have certain benefits. However, when they had a look at the list of conditions some of them were way ott, so they decided it wasn't for them. I also seem to remember them seeing some of those little polite but nasty nit picky notes somewhere when they went up to look around the place ( I can't remember what it was about but it was over something tiny).

My folks are really good neighbours too and considerate too! Anyway yes it is just down the road from me (on the same road effectively):

It sounds like a retirement village.

Good idea in all honesty I'm up for (being in Liverpool) child free places. Years ago the local FACT cinema had a no under 16 policy, even for those films rated e.g. as a 12. No excessive noise, no throwing crap around, no mobiles and their ringtones, no stupid fights (seriously,.. was quite funny at the time I suppose) etc.

But lets face it, you would want to be able to do things like maybe start your car after 9pm and before 7am? It may have changed more recently, but previously that was the sort of thing I am talking about.

I would be thrown out in less than a month!!

Just firing my Jeep up would have half the neighborhood crapping their nappies! (my Jeep has a Cherry Bomb glass pack muffler)

Also I think driving through with Lamb of God or Vader blasting wouldn't go over too well either...

Heheheheh, you got that right!

And I love scaring the crap out of people with the beginning of The Book by Vader. That orchestra part lures them in to thinking it's some placid piece, and then it goes all to hell in a handbasket on them.

nutters

Seriously though, how do they enforce that kind of thing? What law do they have on their side, if any?

My guess would be that the properties are only sold as leasehold, with a general freehold across the entire town. That way they can stipulate tenancy conditions quite easily but, much like the written constitution in the States, changing anything is a serious PITA...
