Same Briggy. PAYE have no real idea what people are earning and basically have to trust the employer to send the right amount. But would I trust a government department to get it right? No chance.

I echo the above sentiments. The idea sounds good in principle but processing the PAYE for the entire country through one Government organisation is a very scary thought. In addition to the Government not having a particularly good reputation with huge databases, it would add another layer of beaurocracy to the system and open it up to a whole new batch of potential errors.

Would they keep everyone's data in one huge datacentre somewhere? That would be a hackers paradise trying to break in and get all that info.
