Default Win 7 stuck in startup repair cycle

Was away at the weekend and have come back a computer that is stuck in a startup repair cycle....

Any ideas on what to do I have done a system restore but still doing the same

Probably not much help but I had to restore our family pc a few months back from an un-explained system crash. The repair function wouldn't work but I was suprised how well the full system restore went.

The only thing I can think of is if there is another restore point that you can try?

Tried them all.... have since doe a fresh install.... great thing about Win & it's a 5min job

Only bind is installing my programs.. but it also gets rid of the crap that had been installed but not used !

There is silver lining to having to re-install.

Might be worth doing a Checkdisk run on the HDD and Memtest on the memory to rule out any possible hardware fault that may have caused the system to corrupt.

good idea... did a memtest from the recovery console and all was fine, but haven't done a check on the hard drive.
