Morning.

Doing about 20mph approaching a 4 way crossing down a steep hill on a poor road surface. Two cars went whizzing past. Stamped on the brakes and slid into the back left corner of a Golf bluemotion. Both airbags went, slam panel took it all. Probably looking at front panels, lights + internal airbags and any unseen damage.

Amusingly the car was still idling post impact so I pulled it over to the side. She did bloody well, the other car that was tapped went a good 100yards down the road before it stopped (to give you an idea of its speed). While I was there a further 2 cars locked going down the hill towards the junction doing exactly the same as me. They weren't going fast either.

Apparently the junction is notorious. Bit miffed as I just did a load of work on the car. Nothing I could have done differently.

edit:- Just got off the phone to the insurers. They say my fault even though the guy was tanking it.

No witnesses to say the other guy was tanking it?

Got one, they weren't interested as it is the guy infront of the one I hit. Open/shut as far as they are concerned.

****! Some nob jumps in front, leaving you no room and it's your fault? I'd smack the nob upside the head until he owned up!

Hold out for it, push for at the very very least 50/50...

Glad you're ok though

If you've driven into the back of something then you'll do incredibly well to get anything other than a fault claim, given that the highway code stipulates you should always leave enough to be able to stop safely. If you've hit something = you didn't leave enough room, that's generally how insurers will play that one.

I don't really understand quite what happened though from that description, whether something overtook you or was crossing the junction or whether the car you slid into was one of the cars that speeding, so the above may be completely irrelevant.

It sounded to me like two cars overtook then rapidly slowed down for the crossing, causing him to hit one in the rear. If such is the case, and if it were me, I'd have immediately rung the police and accused the other drivrs of racing, or reckless driving, or whatever. You don't overtake as you approach a junction unless you want to be hit in the rear...

It sounded to me like the car he hit wasn't actually one of the speeding cars but like I say, I can't really figure it out properly as described

I like pictures and diagrams when it comes to these things

By the way, it turned out the guywas genuine and bought the car off me for cash, as discussed. I think he was a dealer, to be fair, but I didn;t care if he gave me what I wanted, which he did. Two happy punters!

Just goes to show, sometimes it's dodgy, sometimes it's genuine...
