Default Vehicle Tracking - Petition

I got this email this morning:

Quote:
You may feel inclined to sign this petition (apologies to any who have already seen it!)

This is not a chain letter but a petition against those thieves in Downing Street stealing yet more money from us, not to mention keeping tabs on us too. The Daily Telegraph has picked up on this and reports that there have been over 70,000 signatures since early December and that some Labour back-benchers have actually taken note!

Please take the time to sign and pass it on - it only takes a minute.

The government's proposal to introduce road pricing will mean you having to purchase a tracking device for your car and paying a monthly bill to use it. The tracking device will cost about £200 and in a recent study by the BBC, the lowest monthly bill was £28 for a rural florist and £194 for a delivery driver.

A non working Mum who used the car to take the kids to school paid £86 in one month.

On top of this massive increase in tax, you will be tracked. Somebody will know where you are at all times. They will also know how fast you have been going, so even if you accidentally creep over a speed limit you can expect a NIP with your monthly bill.

If you care about our freedoms and stopping the constant bashing of road users, please sign the petition on No 10's new website

http://petitions.pm.gov.uk/traveltax

Please pass this on to anyone who owns a car/motorcycle. It affects them.
Get signing people. Nanny states FTL, civil liberties FTW.

I thought this had been shelved a while back? The solution was a kind of ANPR on the motorway cameras that was going to be able to catch dodgy untaxed/uninsured cars?

Signed.. don't want any tracking done on my car. That becomes too open to abuse by the government for their own purposes. All great whilst you can trust the party in power, but what if you can't, a lá a 1984 / "V for Vendetta" style government?

I don't own a car and probably never will, but even I can see that's wrong. Signed.

It's not just in some of us; it is in everyone. And as we let our own lights shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.

Whats to stop you covering it in tinfoil or transplanting the device into another car?
