They always look at me strangely in the states when I ask for plain water I don't really like fizzy drinks - though have them from time to time, certainly if it's hot!

really? They give us still water in SF all the time. We tend not to order other drinks, just take the water

I seem to have communication problems with the yanks. IF I say "iced water" then they get me... then again they don't understand "pankcakes"... so it's all sorts of weird.
