I make progressive increases, I.e. start at 30m for 10-12 reps, then go up to 16 reps the next week then 40m 10-12 and so on. I also vary the recovery from 60 to 90s. However my training goals are different. Power and speed ; though I guess for this it's pretty similar?

So 6 reps at what distance?

I went and did sprints at the local playing field yesterday. Only did ten and today there isn't one part of my legs that doesn't hurt. Even my hips are knacked. Shows how little effort I've been putting in with my poncey 5Ks!

I'm chuffed, I managed to shave 6 seconds off my 5k pb at Crystal Palace on Saturday

Watching Mo Farah and the female marathoners this weekend has been truly humbling and inspiring too.

Similar goals, but with increased endurance too. 30-60m isn't anywhere near enough. It's all about gradually increasing Mei's speed over the distance.

Eastcombe drive where it meets Bramshot Ave to the top where it meets the main road. It's about 200m according to map my run, which is perfect. She needs to pace herself so that she's not shooting off at 100mph and then dying and having to slow down. I'd say 5-6 MINIMUM. See how she gets on. Don't want to kill her on her first attempt.

Ok. The bit we did was about 115m so I take it that is too short? We did it 6x and it felt good but I think she started off on more than 80% so did I come to think about it. We''ll extend the distance for the next one now I know what's required.

My training was based around HIIT and burst training from my rugby days. Points duly noted. she definitely needs me there though as she does not like sprinting!

I'm the opposite. My problem would be the running. I'm down to around half a mile in 20-25 minutes swimming now after 4 weeks back in the water after a 20 year break...I just wear goggles, they stop any issues with contacts. The cycling is also coming on well. However the running would drive me to distraction. Bores me to tears.

I can't take the risk as have GP lenses and if I lose one that's £100 down the drain.

You won't lose one. A good pair of goggles will stop it happening as they form a seal so no water can get in. Unless you're high-diving it wouldn't be a problem - at least I never lost one, ever, in all my years of training. If you're still not convinced you could always get prescription goggles instead, they cost about £20 (even for widely differing prescriptions in each eye).

Hmm might look into that - the goggles. Didn't know they were so cheap!

Leon bought some prescription goggles so we could go snorkelling. They weren't very pricey at all!

DOMS is good Mei. Muscles working hard, tearing, repairing, getting stronger Reckon 8 would be achievable? need to push you but not kill you xxx
