They are usually, yes, this just makes the 24m less of a better deal than on the higher priced contracts.
I'd guess it's to dissuade people and push them to higher prices or something.

frick it, i am going to get it i think.
Currently I have almost £70 in my Orange Phone fun, and if i don't use it, it will get zeroed at the end of the year so i might as well put it towards a nice phone eh. Get the iPhone 4, sell my old 2G iPhone for £100 on the bay, already got £70 for my N95, that's 50% of the £500 needed for PAYG. £250 from my own pocket for a new phone. Not that bad really. That's the way i am justifying it ! |

...I don't know how it works on contract but on PAYG £10 top up = £1 fund... that's £700 worth of topping up

20p a text to Australia....that's where 99.9999% of it went as I seldom make calls on it, and i get 1000 free text every month that i don't use up. The problem is that if i get on contract, the £35 a month won't go towards the text abroad. |

a PAYG Camel plan might be an idea, 15p per text to Australia
When you're spending that much on foreign texting, it could save you a couple of hundred quid.

The Camel PAYG plan from Orange is actually brilliant if you call or text abroad a lot - it's cheaper than many PAYG systems are domestically.
You can call Australia for 5p a minute IIRC and text for 15p.
