Seven Samurai is high on my list. Only problem is I watch my movies on my iPod nano, so I don't know how well the subtitles will come out on a tiny screen

Inception.

You'll love it or hate it. (maybe) more tomorrow!

I've had positive review from it (a mate went to the opening night) and he said it was worth a trip. Let us know!

Inception

9.5/10

Christopher Nolan pulls together an all star cast headed by Leonardo Di Caprio. Set in a world of corporate espionage, Cobb (Di Caprio) is about the best there is at "Extraction", i.e. going in to peoples dreams and extracting information from their subconscious. Cobb longs to return home to his kids but is barred from the US and any country with an extradition arrangement.... until he's offered one last job, unlike any other attempted before, that will pave the way for a return.

I absolutely loved it. Beautifully executed, engrossing story, fascinating concepts. Took Kari about half our drive back from the cinema to figure out whether she actually liked it, once she'd wrapped her head around it. Make no bones about it, this film is an absolute mind job, but it's not without its laugh-out-loud moments. Suitably entertained and enthralled Kid a few seats over from me was absolutely on the edge of his seat for most of the film.

Really solid performances all round, great to see Joseph Gordon-Levitt (Tommy from 3rd Rock from the Sun) playing an adult role, which he does really well Spoiler Alert! - Highlight below to read!

Loved the changing gravity fight sequences, and the kiss

End Spoiler Alert!. I'm looking forward to seeing Ellen Page in more roles in the future too. I've not seen Juno so this is about the first time I've seen her in a major role.

A full 10/10 for me, one of my favourite films ever. I do have to deduct 0.5 for Spoiler Alert! - Highlight below to read!

the totally unnecessary 'is he out' thing at the end of the film

End Spoiler Alert!. Was great to have a film in which the two main male/female leads in the film didn't fall in love or even show any romantic attraction in the slightest.

I really want to hold off on doing a review as I'd rather see it again first, but I'll say now that I think this will be one of the most important films of the decade. I agree that it deserves a 9.5, possibly 10 out of 10. The half a point I'd knock off is not for the same reason though as I happen to think that the point you raise Garp was a cherry on top of the Epic Sundae, and trying not to give anything away I think it finished the movie in the best way it possibly could.

The half-point I'd knock off is for Leonardo DiCaprio.

The man can act, and he played this part as well as it could have been played but who will remember his character? When I watch a Johnny Depp film I think back and I remember Edward Scissorhands, Ichabod Crane, Willy Wonka, Jack Sparrow, Raoul Duke... I don't remember Johnny Depp. Leonardo DiCaprio once again plays a troubled version of himself as he seems to have done in almost all his films since What's Eating Gilbert Grape, or maybe The Quick and the Dead or Titanic. He did what needed to be done but after such a fantastic film I really feel like I ought to be able to bond with the main character far more than I did (and let's be fair, the film was almost entirely about his character). It really feels like any mainstream Hollywood actor could have taken this role and done it justice, but few could have made it their own and I don't think DiCaprio does this. On the other hand maybe I'm wrong and I just don't like DiCaprio. *shrug* Paradoxically, I've never enjoyed anything Joseph Gordon-Levitt has done until this.

Either way, the horror of becoming trapped in a dream will stay with me for a long time, moreso than any other film that has portrayed dying in real life, and I think that's what endears me to this most of all. A fate worse than death if you will.

I don't think I revealed anything outside of what's mentioned in the first few minutes of the film. It's about people trying to remove people's secrets from their minds while they're dreaming. Which bit needs spoiler tags? Let me know and I'll blank it out.

I was going to write a review about Inception, read yours, and agree with it 100%. Spoiler Alert! - Highlight below to read!

Even the bit about the ending - that really spoiled it for me

End Spoiler Alert!

Oh, and Ellen Page
