Catfish

I can't really explain what this is about without totally giving it away, but I started watching this with no other pretext than 'it's a documentary about a guy who meets a girl on Facebook'. Sounds lame right? I thought so too and was very skeptical about how much I'd enjoy it. Luckily the person that recommended it often knows what he's talking about so I gave it a go.

By about 20-30 minutes in I was thinking 'this is a bit weird and self-involved - why would they make a documentary about this?', but gradually it becomes more ominous and, frankly, a bit scary. By the end I was seriously doubting if it was a real documentary but there's very little to suggest otherwise either in the documentary itself or anywhere online. If it is then it was very well done and entertaining, if it's not, well.... kudos to everyone involved because that would make it a modern masterpiece.

8/10... as a documentary.

Knight & Day

Ooh because it's like their surnames are a play on the phrase 'night and day'! THAT is as witty as this film is. I don't mind 'switch your brain off' films from time to time but this was terrible. Tom Cruise is a stupid little scientology loving **** and not even the lovely Cameron Diaz could resuce this poor effort.

2/10

Futuristic gangs in London

6/10 I think it's been rather harshly judged on IMDB, it's not a great film by any means but I bought it knowing nothing about it and found that I quite enjoyed it. I'm not sure what people were expecting but it's a deliberately grimey film about a London of five years in the future where society has largely broken down with a moral about the futility of violence if you choose to read that into it, if you can just take it on its merits then you'll probably get on ok with it but it's not a style that everyone will like.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1

I won't go into too much detail, but suffice to say I enjoyed it's translation to the screen. I think I want to watch it again before I pick a number out of ten though That said, it's my favourite Harry Potter film so far

Centurion

Britain, A.D. 117. Quintus Dias, the sole survivor of a Pictish raid on a Roman frontier fort, marches north with General Virilus' legendary Ninth Legion, under orders to wipe the Picts from the face of the Earth and destroy their leader, Gorlacon.

4/10, bit lacking all round, acting isnl;t great (which I usually never have a problem), most annoying bit is the font they used for place names and other info, which was just unreadable, just work out what the first part says and then it's gone. However saying all that it was watchable.

Legion

After a terrifying biblical apocalypse descends upon the world, a group of strangers stranded in a remote truck stop diner in the Southwest unwittingly become humanity's last line of defense when they discover the diner's young waitress is pregnant with the messiah.

6/10
I quite liked this, it's not going to be a classic, but a funny and entertaining apocalypse film. With a bit of an unusual twist on the angles.

Brothers

Captain Sam Cahill is embarking on his fourth tour of duty, leaving behind his beloved wife and two daughters. When Sam's Blackhawk helicopter is shot down in the mountains of Afghanistan, the worst is presumed, leaving an enormous void in the family. Despite a dark history, Sam's charismatic younger brother Tommy steps in to fill the family void.

7/10
wasn't expecting much from this film, but it's pretty good and

MegaMind 3D - very funny & the 3D is really good. One of the few films where I think it was worthwhile.

The fact that Tom Cruise is in a film automatically makes it at least a 5/10 for me. I love Tom Cruise, he's awesome.

Kitten and I both enjoyed Knight & Day. It wouldn't set the film world alight but it was a very entertaining couple of hours

I used to think that as well. Loved his earlier films.

I think his slightly cocky acting is getting more and more out of place. Fine years ago but it's just cringe worthy now. He doesn't carry it off that well.

Paths of Glory

It's Stanley Kubrick so I was expecting to dislike this, but I watched it with no knowledge of what it was about and I think this helped a lot because Kubrick is often overhyped in my opinion.

Such a frustrating film but so perfectly made to be that way, and its 86 minute runtime betrays its epicness... epicity... how epic it is.

Give it a go if you haven't already.

10/10
