Well, I suspect the 'catch' is the fact it's actually pretty hard to break a PC during installation so they'll probably not actually have to pay out all that much anyway.

Really, nowadays with push pin heatsinks, screwless cases and so on, it's very hard to damage a PC when you're building.

Thing is, new builders won't know that so a scheme like this will maybe give them confidence to self build and to do it with Scan and not another parts retailer.

I know i'd be tempted by it anyway if I was lashing out £1500 on a Core i7 machine with a GTX295 in it!

I saw this the other day and immediately dubbed it "noob" insurance

Joking aside, I can see the value although I wonder how far it goes. I'd presume it only covers you against damage caused during the course of using the kit "normally", i.e. you wouldn't be covered if you broke a graphics card whilst dismantling the cooler for example.

Dismantling my brand new GTX280 was one of the most nerve wracking things I've ever done with a PC and makes installing CPU heatsinks look like child's play

Yeah, I hate messing with my new PC. The last build was old so I didn't think twice about pulling components out to hoover around inside the case etc. With my new one I treat everything like it's made of glass. If I'd have been offered Scansure when I ordered those parts, I would have taken it.
