So you're saying go to where we (rather - the folks) bought it from? *confuddled*

I just rang up LG, explained the situation and said I thought it was a bit crazy that the TV has this column on it and I wouldn't have expected it to have been like that after a year and she was sooooooooo rude! Said that if we didn't get an extended warranty it was our fault and there was nothing she could do but put me through to a recommended repairs and mechanicy person

I don't mind being told there's nothing they can do but when they're rude it's not on.

Really disappointed though I thought LG was awesome

That may not be a problem:

Q7. Do I have to produce a receipt to claim my rights?

No. In fact the trader doesn't have to give you a receipt in the first place so it would be unfair to say that you had to produce one. However, it might not be unreasonable for the shop to want some proof of purchase, so look to see if you have a cheque stub, bank statement, credit card slip etc., and this should be sufficient.

Yep that's spot on. You have a contract with the seller, the seller has a contract with the manufacturer. The seller should be your first port of call, although sometimes going straight to the manufacturer can be quicker!

If I was you I'd complain to whoever you speak to next about the rudeness of the woman and say that if you have to replace it, no way in HELL Will you buy a TV from them again. Say that you can understand a faulty machine slipping through but rudeness is unacceptable! Might get you a little discount, and if not, it was worth trying

I would hazard the SoGA should cover you at least 3 years on a TV.

I really don't know where you got that idea from. Lucky Goldstar, a Korean firm who (iirc) first started off making toothpaste. It's certainly not a brand name I've ever associated with quality.

I hope you get it sorted though, hopefully the SoGA will cover you and it gets repaired/replaced quickly

Before we got our TV I toyed with an LG but the image retention on it was disgraceful so went with our Panasonic which has been awesome! So if you are going to replace it Pheebs, buy Panasonic and you get a 5 year warranty with it too
